Accounting Lead (Honduras)

San Pedro Sula, Cortes, Honduras
Full Time
Experienced

Position Summary:

We are looking for a proactive, high-ownership Accounting Lead to take full charge of our financial operations. In the initial phase, you will be the sole person responsible for day-to-day accounting, tax, and reporting tasks. As the company scales, you will build, hire, and lead the accounting and payroll teams. This is a “player-coach” role for someone who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves today and lead the department tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities

Phase 1: Individual Execution (Hands-on)

  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Perform daily entries, monthly reconciliations, and year-end closings independently.
  • Treasury & Banking: Load payments into bank platforms and manage day-to-day cash flow and liquidity.
  • Tax & Compliance: Prepare and file all local tax reports, manage VAT recovery, and coordinate the annual transfer pricing report.
  • Audit Readiness: Act as the main point of contact for auditors, preparing documentation and supporting inquiries.
  • Systems Setup: Lead implementation of accounting software and reporting tools to automate manual processes.

Phase 2: Transition & Strategy

  • Internal Controls: Establish and document internal control frameworks to safeguard assets as operations expand.
  • Budgeting: Lead budget preparation and execution, providing comparative and analytical reports to management.
  • Process Optimization: Standardize accounting procedures to ensure scalability for future team growth.

Phase 3: Team Leadership (Future)

  • Team Building: Recruit, onboard, and train accounting and payroll staff.
  • Delegation: Transition from execution to oversight, delegating tasks while ensuring accuracy and performance.
  • Mentorship: Develop and lead the team, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

Requirements

  • Experience: 6+ years in accounting, with exposure ranging from bookkeeping to complex tax compliance.
  • Expertise: Strong knowledge of local tax laws, VAT recovery, and transfer pricing.
  • Tech-Savvy: Experience implementing ERP systems or accounting software.
  • Mindset: Builder mentality—comfortable working independently at first, with the ability to grow into a leadership role.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.
